One Room Challenge - Week 8 Reveal

The room is complete and it turned out lovely. llana and I both adore the refreshed space and are relieved the pressure is off.

First up, let's admire the new wall mural. We both like to sit on her bed now and stare at it. It was the right call to have her bed along the window wall so that we can all see more of the mural.

The stunning light fixture is the Parallax from Blueprint Lighting. The arms move as counter balances to one another so the heights of each bulb is adjustable and the perforated metal shade feels design forward to me. They can powder coat the metal in any color you like. We chose the Pearl color to keep it neutral. The quality of this fixture is too gorgeous and I'm excited to have them as a (new to me) source for future design work.

I am a tomboy at heart and as much as Ilana wanted a pink fluffy rug in here, I couldn't do it. I picked the stripey Ankara kilim in cream from Overstock for her and although she resisted, she loved it when it showed up. Pinstripes forever! If you know me by now you also know I am a fan of layering smaller antique rugs over more modern flatweave rugs. This perfectly worn golden number is from Swoon Rugs. She has an awesome collection of one of kind vintage rugs like these in all sizes.

With the bed now centered on the window wall and the old wall hanging banished for being to kiddish, Ilana and I chose oversized framed prints from Minted to tie into the desert landscape concept. You see White Canyon 3 and Mountainside as a pair over her bed. I use Minted a lot for projects to fill up blank white walls with affordable art prints. They have a really nice filter where you can hunt down art by size, orientation, colors, and theme or I would be on there for too long looking through the options from the many talented artists to choose from.

I am grateful for the Chloe dresser from Apt 2B. It is a SOLID and heavy piece that I can't imagine Ilana breaking, as hard as she is on furniture. It provides so much storage for her clothes so I don't find them in messy piles on the floor. The white painted finish with the brass accents is just the right amount of midcentury glam and modern sass. It exceeded my expectations. And can we talk about the ethereal Color Cloud 16 print from Jessica Poundstone ?! I like to mix abstract art with photography prints in one room. The colors and vibe of the art works well with the Minted prints above the bed. The quality natural wood framing provided by Minted looks really nice with the bed frame.

There is a pair of matching Apt 2B Chloe nightstands flanking her full bed. I like mixing the blonde wood with the white painted pieces and not having everything feel like a set. Don't be totally surprised if these end up in my master bedroom.

We can all appreciate how the brass and white marble table lamp from Overstock works so well with the Chloe nightstand and supports Ilana's bedside reading.

Remember that rusted wire chair I upcycled with a can of spray paint? It looks really chic now next to the leaning mirror from Overstock for the budding fashionista. She didn't trust me on the wood color thinking it was too dark, but once it was in the space she got it. You want varying wood tones to keep everything feeling natural and more relaxed. Now she spends hours trying on outfits in front of this mirror, not the one in my bedroom. You may notice the closet doors reflected in the mirror. They are yellow now due to me caving on a last minute request and they are not my favorite. At all. But I don't mind a little flash of color in the reflection.

Her bed is crazy comfortable with the full size Tuft & Needle foam mattress and the Tuft & Needle linen bedding in the neutral sand color. The mattress is firm yet you sink into it which is very nice. The linen sheets are light and soft. I find her and Lev or her and the dog hanging out on the bed at all times of the day and she sleeps later every morning now too. We have a first generation Tuft & Needle mattress in our bedroom too. Its a company I can stand behind as very good value for the price (the full mattress was gifted, our original queen mattress we bought) and now that they have bedding too, we are one and done.

Sadly the bespoke pillows from SWD Studio didn't make it in time for the photo shoot due to delays with the post office. I wanted to show you a close up of the beautiful fabrics selected. There is the embroidered Abenaki Chestnut and Abenaki Oyster Euro size square pillows fronted by the Pyramid Print lumbar. They will look so good as a trio. Susan from SWD Studio even threw in a smaller mustard velvet lumbar as a surprise because she knew the mustard velvet bed that was ordered had been canceled. She is beyond thoughtful. Don't worry Susan, these pillows will get their day in the sun.

We all love Ilana's room so much more now. Thanks to the One Room Challenge for kicking our butts into gear and making it happen. Having a project to focus on during the Covid Shutdown.

But wait, remember how we added the garage to the One Room Challenge scope? Its done as well. The epoxy floor cured over the course of 5 days and we felt good about placing the new storage cabinets to hold/hide all the miscellaneous junk along the back wall. A new bike rack to get the bikes and rake off the floor. And matching open shelves for the building and gardening supplies. Of course the garage needed a saucy light fixture to give it a liittle sparkle. I found this cutey on Overstock as well.

Its amazing what a good clean out and fresh coats of paint and epoxy can do.
