Pillow Talk

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

I have a thing for pillows. Its a weakness really. Nothing so instantly and temporarily changes the mood of your living space than a new cluster of pillows. A uniform color scheme but a mix of textures, materials, and origins really livens things up. Take a look at the collections below. You’ll never see any of my sofas piled quite so high with so many pillows – where would you sit? But don’t assume I don’t have a stack of pillow covers in the storage to rotate in and out with the seasons or fashions.

Boucherouite Rugs

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Take one boring room, place a boucherouite rug anywhere – on the floor, on the wall, as a throw – and you will achieve instant textural, exotic, psychedelic, geometric, colorful perfection. These rugs are my newest obsession – kind of like Beni Ourain rugs in origin but way more shagadelic and lively. Each one I see is more amazing than the last. Gorgeous.

Himmeli

Until a few months ago, I had never heard or seen of these equisite Finnish geometric constructs typically made of straw and used as Christmas ornaments. Not a very summer appropriate post, but I couldn’t wait until December to appreciate these awe inspiring mobiles which are fast becoming a modernist staple.

The Striped Rug

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Have you noticed the striped rug is “trending” (a word I have never used before and I’m not sure how I feel about it). I love it myself for the graphic nautical punch it provides to any lackluster room. I used the large black and white Ikea Stockholm Rand rug in Nico’s room last year and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again. Its been around for a while too.

I think that’s it again in a studio environment, via Brick House, but it would work in a dining room.

Now we see it officially in a dining room with an eclectic mix of chairs from Dwell.

A Beachy Guest House

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I’m helping a  friend pull together a guest house in Santa Monica and give it a relaxed beachy vibe as she welcomes her summer visitors. Lucky them. The original inspiration images are more Cape Cod than Malibu, weathered beadboard with ocean blue colors. The goal is to not spend too much money as this isn’t a space that will be used more than a few days a month.

A Beach Cottage

Here is what we have so far. I don’t think she will implement all of the items, but there is no reason you shouldn’t benefit from what we have done in case you want to do the same in a guest room or your own bedroom. All really easy to get and affordable items. The hardest part may be adding beadboard to your walls for that beach cottage feel. Don’t forge to decorate with shells and driftwood.
