Catskills Remodel Treat

Do you ever see a remodel so successful that it makes you swoon? Every room done just right with nothing off or amiss? The kind of space you would want to occupy? That’s how I feel about this Catskills home, originally featured on Design Crisis, that has made the rounds through many an inspiration board.

First of all the house has great bones and they are showcased. Check out that hot pink sofa and restrained use of midcentury modern furniture in the great room. Cluster of Nelson light pendants, yes! Balanced with the rustic industrial flair of the fireplace and kitchen – just lovely.

Rehabbed factory windows in the hall and floors stained with India Ink for a super black finish.

This bathroom is so me! subway tile with black grout, industrial wall lights, and vintage elements such as the claw foot tub and brass spiget.

A simple serene bedroom with a hammock as wall hanging for nice texture and quite a creative decorative piece.

The master bedroom just screams cool – the garage was converted into a minimalist haven. Military wool blankets and trunk, lots of green courtesy the light of the floor to ceiling window where the garage door used to be. Even the simple platform bed frame is to die for.

One of my favorite baby design blogs, Spearmint Baby, has featured my nursery today. Its such a timely treat since I will be going into the hospital tomorrow to deliver our baby girl. There will most probaby be a blogging break as I recover, but I will be back as soon as I can. Ta ta for now and enjoy Spearmint Baby.

Concrete Today

Concrete is an awesome material to apply to previously unconsidered areas of the home. Beyond sealed floors which we ave seen a lot of in the past few years, think of counters, walls, stairs, plumbing fixtures, what have you. Unfortunately, its not as cheap as you might think due to the custom work involved in bringing thes ecreations to life. I will have a bathroom remodel with a sick concrete countertop to show you soon. Concrete does especially well in the abusive bathroom environment. Until that bathroom remodel is complete, here are some neat examples to hold you over.

I can’t remember if I have already done a post on plywood as a respectful material in interior design and decoration, so if I haven’t its due time. Its takes a minimalist restrain to adopt it in your own home, but I just can’t help but be enamoured with the simplicity and warmth it brings to any space. And economic too!

Divinely juxtaposed with marble back splash and high end appliances for a well styled kitchen.

Here is a home photographed by Patrik Johansson that combines a few of my favorite elements into one space. Tom Dixon lighting, white ceramic tile with dark grout, industrial Tolix stools, white Eames chairs with wooden dowel legs, a weathered Chesterfield, and polished cement floors. A recipe for satisfaction. I would gladly take up residence.
